PORTLAND SKETCHES

About the album

Portland Sketches began as a livestream experiment during the height of COVID, bringing together four musicians at The 1905 in Portland to create in the moment from Charlie Porter’s brief musical fragments — melodic ideas, rhythmic sparks, and harmonic sketches written just before the show. What emerged was not a traditional performance, but a raw exploration of spontaneity that blossomed into a multidisciplinary project. Visual artists were later invited to “sketch” in real time to the music, captured on film alongside videography inspired by the same sounds. The result is both a document of Portland’s creative resilience and an ongoing collaboration across music, art, and film.

Personnel: Charlie Porter (trumpet, flugelhorn) Mike Gamble (electric guitar) Andrew Jones (bass) Darian Anthony Patrick (drums)
