PHP Records was founded by internationally acclaimed trumpeter and composer Charlie Porter as a boutique label created to house and protect his own projects. After years of releasing music through traditional channels, Porter wanted a home base where his albums could live under one roof — a space that allowed complete artistic freedom while also preserving the integrity of his work.
The name PHP carries a dual meaning: it nods to Porter’s publishing imprint, Porter House Press, while also representing the idea of a home for music — a place where creative projects can be nurtured and released without compromise.
From the outset, PHP Records has been focused on presenting Porter’s wide-ranging musical output, from classical trumpet etudes and chamber music to jazz albums and genre-bending concept projects like Cipher. Each release reflects a unique part of his artistic vision, but together they form a cohesive body of work that tells a larger story of exploration, discipline, and creativity.
